King salmon are tremendous fighters often times making repeated greyhound runs, testing your arm strength and resolve. Coho salmon and Steelhead are scrappy, acrobatic fighters and are fun to catch on light tackle – either in the salt or fresh water. Rounding out the salmon available in Kodiak waters are chum, humpback and sockeye. Alaska fly fishing.

If stream fishing for steelhead and rainbow trout are your passion we can arrange to fly you out to some of the absolute best streams and lakes found anywhere in the world. In addition to world-class steelhead and rainbow fishing you can seasonally expect to catch Chinook, Coho and Sockeye salmon. We also have several lakes where anglers literally wear themselves out reeling in resident Rainbow and Dolly Varden trout. Though we furnish all the conventional gear make sure you bring your favorite fly rod and an assortment of flies!

Halibut are stubborn fighters and will resist capture by making repeated runs for the bottom. If you tag into a big one, be ready for the battle of your life! They will make you earn every single pound of their savory white flesh!

Our Sport-fishing Methods

We have accumulated a wealth of fishing knowledge the past 25 years. Each day’s fishing is planned to be best suited for the tides, weather, and location. Mooching and trolling herring is the most effective method for Chinook salmon. Mooching and drift fishing with lures and bait is best for halibut and bottom fish. Artificial lures are used for pink, sockeye, chum, and Coho salmon. Type of water fished Saltwater fishing is within several protected bays and inlets near Kodiak Island Resort. If the fishing is hot in the outside ocean waters, our 40-foot boats are the perfect boat to pursue salmon, halibut, lingcod and rockfish while maintaining a safe trip. The inside water conditions are usually calm and stable with an occasional light chop during the season. Freshwater fishing is in streams, rivers or mountain lakes and by rafts or wading.

While fishing our productive waters, you will thoroughly enjoy our brand new, top-notch fishing boats and equipment. We feature wide beam 40 foot ocean going fishing boats. These boats are state-of-the-art fishing vessels that were constructed specifically for passenger comfort, superior handling, and speed. Talk about a comfortable ride! Each boat is outfitted with Coast Guard required safety equipment, top-of-the-line fishing gear and state of the art electronic equipment, enclosed private bathrooms and comfortable heated, fully enclosed cabin.

Alaska Flyfishing

When freshwater fishing you will be flown to the hottest streams or lakes and fish from jonboats, rafts or the shore. Most days we never encounter another fishing party. The areas we fish are so numerous that you may never fish the same location twice even if you visit several times.

Kodiak Island Resort uses only the most experienced professional guides that keep your day safe as well as action packed and memorable. The little touches they add will make the difference! These dedicated sport-fishing guides are all licensed professionals who always know what is biting and the best ways to catch them!

Cleaned, Vacuum Packed, Frozen, Boxed Catch

Each day your fish are promptly cleaned and iced on-board our boats and later prepared in serving-sized portions; vacuumed packed, boxed and frozen in our freezer. Our professional regard for your prized catch earns us high praise from our happy clients each season! It’s just another example of our ‘Customer First’ attitude! At Alaska’s Kodiak Island Resort you will catch plenty of fish to take home in 2-3 days. It is customary to take home one or two wet-lock boxes of vacuum packed fresh frozen salmon, halibut, ling cod, and an assortment of rockfish fillets. Additional boxes incur only shipping costs.

There is a large walk-in freezer at the airport if overnight storage is needed. The fish boxes will travel with you as checked baggage from Kodiak when you depart for home.

Conservation

As do most experienced lodge operations in Alaska, we encourage and participate in catch and release sport-fishing of salmon and halibut, especially when fishing is exceptionally good – In the SPIRIT of conservation!
